The Story
Cuvée Coffee Roasting Company was formed by Mike McKim
in 1998 after he discovered the joys of drinking freshly-roasted
and professionally-prepared coffee while on a ski vacation.
Upon returning home, he and a friend decided to buy a roaster and
try their hand at roasting coffee - mostly for themselves and friends.
They were soon able to sell some of their coffee, but it took a
few years before Mike, who's business partner had by then departed,
was able to turn his hobby into a full-fledged business.
This year Cuvée will roast approximately 75,000 pounds of
coffee.
The roasting operation recently relocated from the Houston area
to the Austin area to be closer to Caffé Medici, its
biggest client, and their other coffee shop customers. About 95
percent of the specialty coffee roaster's business comes from independent
coffeehouses and businesses in Austin.
