The Story
T.J. was the head roaster at Peace Coffee for 7 years. Caleb worked
as a wine consultant to restaurants. With T.J.'s roasting skills
and Caleb highly-refined palate, they combined forces in 2005 to
form Kickapoo Coffee.
The set-up is an historic railroad depot in the small Wisconsin
town of Viroqua. Roasting is done in small batches in a vintage
(pre-World War II) German roaster. The coffee is packaged in distinctive
12 oz. steel coffee cans, which are vacuum-sealed for freshness,
100% recyclable and the most nvironmentally
friendly packaging available.
Locations
Kickapoo coffee is available from their website, or through numerous
local (WI, MN and IA) food coops.

Passions
Fair trade coffee that tastes great. They don't like buying from
coffee traders and corporations - they would much rather buy from
cooperatives or individual farmers so they they know the farmer
is being treated well, and they know exactly where their coffee
came from. They relish microlot, hard-to-find coffees.
Awards

Quote
"Each of these coffees come from a place, and they're made
by a person, and that person has a story, and the coffee tells the
story of that person. (That story) is something we want to share
with our community and our costumers." - T.J. Semanchin
