The Story
The story of Topéca starts way back in the 1870's, when
Emilio Alvarez moved from Colombia to El Salvador with the hope
of wealth and a better life. He brought with him from Colombia Arabica
Typica coffee beans, which he planted in the foothills of his adopted
country. The plantation fourished and grew in both size and reputation.
The story continues six generations later, in 2001, when plmmenting
coffee prices and low demand for high-quality coffee alomst force
the farm to go broke. In desperation, Emilio's great-granddaughter,
Margarita, asks her son and son-in-law for help with the struggling
plantation.
Working together, Emilio and John help the plantation to prosper.
The key to their success was to develop the Seed-to-Cup
process, where they eliminate all middlemen and sell the coffee
directly to the consumer.
Today, their coffee is grown on the same land that Emilio settled
over a century ago. The green coffee is then sent directly to their
roasting facility in Tulsa.
